A Proclamation to Dedicate the Mayor Nicholas J. Helmer Executive Conference Room at Chicago Executive Airport

 

                WHEREAS, the City of Prospect Heights and the Village of Wheeling purchased the Airport on December 26, 1986 and have entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement for the Organization, Operation, and Maintenance of the Chicago Executive Airport; and,

 

                WHEREAS, Section 4 of the said Agreement requires the selection of a seven member Board of Directors and specifies that three members be chosen from each municipality; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Board Members of the Chicago Executive Airport wish to honor Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer, who passed away on January 26, 2022; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer exemplified the American Dream, immigrating to the United States as a child from post-war Europe, serving in the U.S. Army and dedicating his life to public service; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer was known as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; supportive friend, coach, and mentor to many; dedicated public servant; and well-regarded real estate developer; and

 

                WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer was appointed and represented the City of Prospect Heights as a Commissioner of the Chicago Executive Airport Board of Directors, formally known as the Palwaukee Municipal Airport Commission, and also served as Secretary during his appointment; and,

 

                WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer served on the Chicago Executive Airport Board of Directors for fourteen years, where he supported efforts to modernize the airport including the relocation of Hintz Road at Wolf Road to create a larger runway safety area, the planning and construction of the current air traffic control tower and Tower Road access road; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer continued his public service and served as Mayor of Prospect Heights, and remained committed to the success of Chicago Executive Airport; and

 

                WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer was a licensed pilot and supported the Chicago Executive Airport and aviation, serving as a member of the Palwaukee Airport Pilot’s Association; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years and high school sweetheart, Gail Anne (nee Mishlove) Helmer; His children Nick Helmer Jr. (Megan Feeny) and Rebecca (Anthony) Jacob; his grandchildren Kelly Ann Helmer, Kathryn Elizabeth Helmer, Nicholas Jacob, and Jillian Jacob; his sister Rosemarie (Lawrence) Garlasco; brother’s-in-law Robert and David Mishlove; and

 

                WHEREAS, the Chairman and Board of Directors wish to honor Mr. Nicholas J. Helmer for his service and dedication to the Chicago Executive Airport;

 

                NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF CHICAGO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT that the conference room at Chicago Executive Airport Administration Office will be dedicated to and named The Mayor Nicholas J. Helmer Executive Conference Room.
